Mana ash is a deciduous tree that reaches to 12-15 m. The bark is dark grey, usually very smooth even in old trees.
Leaves are opposite, pinnate compound and have 5-9 leaflets; each leaflet is 5-10 cm long and 2-4.5 cm wide.
Flowers are white, fragrant, appear with or after leaves, in dense, "string-like", terminal clusters (panicles) 7-12 cm long.
