Ruscus aculeatus

Ruscus aculeatus, known as butcher's-broom,  is a rhizomatous evergreen subshrubs that reaches up to 75 cm.

The plant has flat shoots known as cladodes that give the appearance of stiff, spine-tipped leaves.

Small greenish flowers are borne singly in the centre of the cladodes. The female or hermaphrodite plants produce glossy red berries.
